What is FED/FOMC?

The Federal Reserve (FED) of the US performs five general functions to promote the efficient functioning of the U.S. economy and the public interest more generally. federal reserve It conducts the country's monetary policy, promotes the stability of the financial system and seeks to minimize and limit systemic risks through active monitoring and participation in the US and abroad. The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) consists of 12 members: 7 of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York; and 4 of the remaining eleven Reserve Bank presidents, who serve one-year terms on a rotating basis. The FOMC members, whose decisions affect the markets not only in the USA but all over the world, meet in Washington approximately every 6 weeks. There will be one more meeting in 2021. The decisions taken at the meeting to be held on 14-15 December will be announced by the Central Bank Governor Jerome Powell immediately after the meeting. The last Fed interest rate meeting took place on November 2-3. Then Fed Chairman Powell announced his interest rate decision. The US Federal Reserve (FED) kept the policy rate unchanged at 0-0.25%, as expected.
